Treatments for Anxiety: Fact Versus Fiction is a must read for therapists, counselors, and clinicians working with those dealing with anxiety. The authors present a comprehensive review of 25 methods for treating anxiety and anxiety disorders and, more importantly, cover the research on the effectiveness of each of those potential treatments. This balanced approach allows the professional an opportunity to make an informed decision, grounded in the literature about the nature of anxiety disorders, about which techniques to use in specific circumstances. The review of the findings related to each technique does not only present the effectiveness of the technique in broad strokes, but also delineates which clients might benefit from that approach (and in what circumstances) and which ones would not. This “targeted” approach will enable practitioners to maximize the usefulness of each technique, significantly expanding their tool kit for treating anxiety-related disorders. A great investment for all mental health professionals.
